We pride ourselves on providing a range of charming and comfortable guest rooms, each with its own unique character and ambiance.
The Inn at Gristmill Square
A Unique Blend of Rustic Elegance & Country Charm
Our 18 rooms and suites are each distinctive in size and décor offering both traditional and modern amenities. Nine rooms are located in the main square which is made up of the Hardware Store and Blacksmith Shop. The Steele House houses four more rooms, the Miller House offers another four rooms, and the Payne House offers a private suite that is the only room in the building. You are invited to learn more about our rooms by visiting their individual links.
Occasionally we require a two-night minimum. Holiday weekends require a three-night minimum.
Hardware Store
The Hardware Store building was originally restored in 1972, rooms are located across from the Mill. Some rooms allow for 1 dog ($50 pet fee).
Blacksmith Shop
Two rooms are located in the former Blacksmith’s shop. Both rooms are dog-friendly, limit 1 dog per room, for a $50 fee.
Steele House
This former residence houses four guest rooms with central heating and window unit a/c. These rooms do not allow for dogs.
Miller's House
Miller’s House features four guest rooms with central heating and window unit a/c. These rooms do not allow for dogs.
Payne House
The Payne House was added to the inn in 2016, and offers another dog-friendly room ($50 pet fee). It also houses our Office/Front Desk and Gift Shop, open daily from 8am-5pm.

*To the delight of our guests, our complimentary continental breakfast baskets are delivered to your accommodation each morning between 8:00 and 10:00. The menu changes daily; but the menu is fixed and what is served is the choice of our Chef. With advance notice, we welcome special requests from our guests such as gluten free, dairy free, and we will do our best to fulfill them. There will be a $15.00 charge per breakfast for any menu change inclusive of special dietary requests; a request for breakfast outside of our delivery window; and any other special service request. After all, it is complimentary, and it is delivered without a “room service” charge.
Examples of our complimentary breakfasts are:
- Spinach and Feta Pastry, Freshly Baked Scone, Yogurt Parfait
- Freshly Baked Croissant, Jam/Jelly, Fresh Fruit
- Egg Casserole, Muffin, Yogurt with Fruit
All breakfasts include freshly squeezed orange juice, Crucible Coffee (roasted in Staunton, VA), or hot tea.

Save with Non-refundable Rates
Now enjoy non-refundable rates that are discounted from our Best Available Rate. These rates are available mid-week only, and some date restrictions apply (based on availability). These rates are only available for booking 3 months in advance, or less, of your desired arrival date. Please note, there rates are NON-REFUNDABLE, even for weather or illness (no exceptions), so please plan accordingly. The reservation is transferrable, so if you can't make it last minute you can send someone else in your place. Non-refundable rooms are payable IN FULL at the time of booking. **Not available for group room blocks, or rooms that have been held for group use.
Warm In the Winter
Enjoy the warmth of the Warm Springs Pools with this great winter special. Mid-week, enjoy discounted rates PLUS complimentary access to the Warm Springs Pools (you pay for the pools, and we discount your stay even further to offset the cost). On weekends, rates are discounted in the amount of a soak so you can enjoy a soak on us! You are responsible for reserving and paying for your soak. We discount your stay to offset that cost. This rate requires a two-night minimum. Based on availability. Not to be combined with any other offers or packages. Rate is available through February 28, 2025

Enhance your visit with these items that can be added during or after the booking process. Some items require more advance notice than others. Our reservations staff is happy to assist you in making your upcoming visit as special and memorable as possible.
Sparkling Wine
Have a bottle of Sparkling Wine in your room upon arrival. Let us know if you are celebrating someone or something special and we can handwrite a notecard to accompany the wine.
Troddenvale Cider
Sip on some local hard cider made mere steps from the Inn. Enjoy notes of tropical fruit and bitter orange in their House Cider. This is a dry cider that is made from apples grown in Nelson and Augusta counties.
Mimosas with Breakfast
Wake up with breakfast in bed and enjoy a bottle of sparkling wine and enough fresh orange juice to whip up your own mimosas.
House Private Label Pinot Noir
Enjoy this special bottle of Grochau Cellars Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Owner and winemaker, John Grochau, custom blended this special bottle from five vineyards in Oregon’s most famous wine producing region. John and Kate picked out this special bottle and worked with John every step of the way to bring this delicious Pinot Noir to Virginia. This wine will be in your room awaiting your arrival.
Red Roses or Flowers
Surprise your significant other with a fresh floral bouquet in your room upon arrival. If someone special you know is visiting the inn and you want to arrange for flowers in their room we can assist you with that too! Just let us know your budget for flowers and we will take care of the rest! (at least 48 hours notice required)
